Review: Oh You Pretty Things “Pixar” Surprise Box

Now if anyone knows me, they know that I really like surprise boxes and subscription boxes. Sadly at the moment I don’t get any regular subscription boxes because to be honest, there aren’t any around at the moment that cover my interests enough; but luckily I am still able to get my surprise box “fix” from one of my favourite small businesses around, Oh You Pretty Things, which is run by the fabulous Lauren (aka Queenkewpiex on Instagram). As well as surprise boxes, Lauren also offers prints and mugs of her own artwork; plus she sources some amazing vintage/retro Disney (and other items) such as badges, mirrors and more. She doesn’t just do Disney either; other recent boxes she has done include Anastasia, Thumbelina, The Simpsons, Trolls, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and much more! I also happen to know she is working on a new box that I am SUPER excited about and will definitely be getting when they are available ๐Ÿ˜‰

So anyway, lets get back to my order! As well as ordering my surprise box, I also ordered a couple of vintage badges from Lauren of Genie and Chip which you can see below; and Lauren even kindly included that amazing Sorcerer Mickey keyring, as well as a cute card and some princess stickers โค

Now onto my surprise box! Firstly, everything comes BEAUTIFULLY packaged and I stupidly didn’t take pictures of that because I was just so eager to open it all up! But anyway, below is a quick picture of everything I got inside.

I’m afraid I forgot to take a picture of the Toy Story trading cards (another of my favourite things!) as I have already put them in my folder, but they were super awesome. In terms of handmade items by Lauren, she included the amazing Edna Mode quote print, the beautiful Reach for the Sky necklace, and the To Infinity and Beyond banner. I need to mention here how incredibly sweet Lauren was with regards to the necklace. She knows that I can only use one hand/arm so she was so super sweet and ordered some special magnetic fastenings for the necklace to make it easier for me, and even included some extra ones in the box that I can use on some of my other necklaces. Such a kind thought, I was so touched โค I need to get a frame for my print but the banner is already hung on my bed and I adore it!

Also inside my box was the amazing Anger plush, and a figure of Merida which I was super excited about as she is from a set they did in Disney Store of all the princesses but the only one I wanted was Merida so I didn’t buy it, so I am thrilled to have her now ๐Ÿ™‚ I also got the amazing Bing Bong Little Golden Book which has actually been on my Amazon wishlist for months and the illustrations are just adorable; plus the iron on Woody patch which again, I’ve been meaning to order one for a while to customize some clothes so really happy with that. Finally, I also got the beautiful pin of Carl and Ellie from Up which I am just over the moon with as I adore them and its such a beautiful pin โค Overall, I was absolutely thrilled with my Pixar surprise box and will definitely be ordering again from Lauren in the future!

Thinkway Toys “Toy Story” Baby Face Action Figure

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to finally get one of my grail items at a great price and I’ve finally got round to taking some pics to share with you.

This Baby Face action figure was released by Thinkway Toys back when Toy Story first came out and is usually pretty hard to find, and pretty pricey when you do find it! However, after years (and years!) of being patient on eBay, I finally snagged one and it couldn’t have been more perfect for me! The reason it was so perfect, is because although it was still boxed, the box was damaged and the plastic casing had almost completely come away from the cardboard backing; so I think the price stayed lower as it wasn’t MOC but for me that is perfect because I un-box nearly everything so I didn’t have to feel so guilty about ruining the box for this as it was already done!

The packaging itself is still pretty awesome though; I love the graphics on some of the original Toy Story toy packaging as it’s so colurful, and I love looking at all the other toys available from the range on the back. Definitely want to hunt some more of them down! I actually remember buying the “Knock Down Woody with Stand” twice when I was child; twice, because it broke immediately it was taken out the box, both times ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Anyway, lets get back to Baby Face himself. This toy is seriously AWESOME! You have to assemble his legs yourself and it was fairly straightforward with letter coding so you knew which leg went where. His eye really blinks when you tip him up; and he has pull back action so he scoots along the floor and his legs move slightly too when he does that โค There is slight damage on one of his legs and another one was quite loose in its fitting so I might fix those up a bit but otherwise, he is pretty amazing and he’s definitely one of my most cherished pieces in my collection now โค

My Top 10 Pixar Movie Songs

I thought I’d start writing some posts about some of my favourite Disney things e.g. songs, characters etc. and so I am starting off with my top 10 songs from the Pixar films, including the short films. Now this list isn’t in a specific order, thoughย the first one listed is my absolute favourite. Let me know if you agree with any of my choices or if you think I have missed out one you think is awesome โค

  1. You’ve Got a Friend in Me (Toy Story) – Randy Newman

I don’t think this is going to come as a great surprise to anyone that this is my ultimate favourite song from a Pixar film. I just love the lyrics and the meaning behind it. I also have a treasured memory of one of my best friends in school printing off the lyrics for me and presenting it to me as a gift as a symbol of our friendship โค

2. If I Didn’t Have You (Monsters Inc.) – Billy Crystal and John Goodman

I love this song because its so fun and such a classic buddy song. I love how its been done in characterย and the lyrics are brilliant, I love listening to it at the end credits of the film.

3. Life is a Highway (Cars) – Rascal Flatts

This is real feel good song and it also feels a little more “grown up” so if you ever feel the need to listen to a Disney song in an environment where it might not be so appropriate to be belting it outย to “Let it Go”, this song is perfect XD

4. Sailing No More (Toy Story) – Randy Newman

This song is up there on my list as one of the saddest Disney songs ever! It just breaks my heart when Buzz realises he is “just” a toy and you see the emotion on his face. The song matches his emotions completely and is timed so perfectly as he falls and crashes on the floor. So although it is one of the saddest songs to me, it is a real work of art too so I had to include it even though it upsets me XD

5. Put On Your Sunday Clothes (Wall-E) – Michael Crawford

This song was originally from the film musical “Hello, Dolly!” but part of it is used in the opening sequence of Wall-E. I just feel it was really clever as the opening lyrics are perfect for applying to the wonder of the universe and the shots of outer space it is set against are just incredible; but then as we lower down to see Earth as itย has become, full of rubbish and no signs of life; the song starts to fade out which I think has a really powerful impact.

6. Time of Your Life (A Bug’s Life) – Randy Newman

Another great song from Randy Newman with great lyrics. It plays during the end credits of the film but you can still listen to the lyrics and relate it to how Flik felt when he was going off out into the world and seeing all these new things and it matches his personality so well too.

7. Married Life (Up) – Michael Giacchino

This is the only song on my list that is purely instrumental but it is one of my absolute favourite pieces of music ever as it just conveys so much emotion in a few short minutes. I can picture the sequence from the film that it it set against perfectly when I listen to it and get just as emotional just listening to the music on its own as I do when I watch the film. Just beautiful.

8. When Somebody Loved Me (Toy Story 2) – Sarah McLachlan

Earlier I talked about “Sailing No More” being one of the saddest songs ever, but this one takes the number one spot for that title! This is of course “Jessie’s Song” where we learn her story of once being loved by her girl Emily, and then abandoned when Emily grows up. It is beautifully sung by Sarah McLachlan and perfectly conveys Jessie’s feelings in that moment in the film. As I have grown up myself, I actually find it too sad to listen to on its own now, but it still had to have a place in my top Pixar songsย โค

9. Boundin’ (Boundin’) – Bud Luckey

This is a musically narrated story from the Pixar short, Boundin’, written, directed and performed by Bud Luckey. I just adore the story/lyrics and the musical composition is just adorable. Its my favourite of all the Pixar shorts and when I am feeling down, I always watch it or listen to it to help myself feel better โค

10. Lava (Lava) – Kuana Torres Kahele & Napua Greig

This is from another of Pixar’s short films (and my 2nd favourite of all their shorts) and again, the lyrics and story and meaning behind the song are just so beautiful and it is beautifully sung by Kuana Torres Kahele and Napua Greig. It has so much emotion in it; its heartbreaking when he disappears beneath the sea, but when his love starts singing and you hear him burst out and find her, its so joyful and makes me so happy. Its just a wonderful love song โค

Photo Background Papers

I am often asked on Instagram what I use for the backgrounds in some of my pictures and as I ordered some new ones this week, I thought I may as well do a post telling you about what I use and where you can find some ๐Ÿ™‚

Sometimes I use sheets of wrapping paper or wallpaper samples but most of the time, I use Disney themed scrapbooking papers. The size I use is pretty much the largest you can get in scrapbook papers which is 12×12 inches. They are a pretty good size for using for small plush, figures and Tsum Tsum’s etc. However, anything larger and thats when I tend to use the wrapping paper sheets or wallpaper samples.

The main website I use to order my Disney scrapbook papers is Scrapping the Magic. They have quite a large range and all reasonably priced and they ship nice and quickly too. The order I received today though came from a shop called Sunshine Scrapbooking. They don’t have quite as large a range but they had a few lovely ones that I hadn’t seen on Scrapping the Magic before so I gave them a try. Again, shipping was nice and fast and the papers are gorgeous. My absolute favourite is the “Its a Small World” one, its beautiful! I haven’t photographed them all fully but you can see previews of the ones I ordered in the pictures below.

Hopefully you guys will find the links useful ๐Ÿ™‚

Hong Kong Disneyland – Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters Water-Fill Cup

I’m pretty excited to share this with you guys because I recently found it after thinking it had gone missing so I am really happy to have found it again as it’s one of my most favourite things ๐Ÿ™‚

I got it at Hong Kong Disneyland about 8 years ago and its just a simple plastic water-fill cup from the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters ride, but I absolutely adore it. I love the colours and the pictures on it, and all the glitter and little rockets and stars that move around in the water as you use it. Its fairly small as I guess its really meant to be for kids, but its my favourite ever cup to use and a memento from a great trip so I’m really happy to have found it again ๐Ÿ™‚

Intergalactic Buzz Lightyear by Thinkway Toys

I was lucky enough to win a few ebay auctions really cheaply recently and the first of my wins arrived home at the weekend. He is an Intergalactic Buzz Lightyear made by Thinkway Toys.

He did come in his original box which has seen better days but not too bad considering his age and that he was apparently very much a child’s toy in his former home. The sides of the box have the same thing printed on each side. I really love the graphics on the boxes and packaging of the older toys, they just feel more authentic to the film.

The instruction sheet for how to use his disc shooting back pack, flip up arm communicator and lightbulb installation was still inside the box:
On the box pictures, Buzz he is shown to be really shimmery but in reality he is a basic sort of metallic silver colour. The metallic paint has been scratched or rubbed off in a few places on mine, particularly at the back, but I am still pretty pleased with the condition he is in for the price I paid. Unfortunately, the only buttons that still work on him are the blue, green and red ones. His laser does not work anymore, and neither does the flip up arm communicator button. I shared a video on my instagram account showing what he says when you press the working buttons. Also, you can’t see it very well in the video because its daylight, but when you press those buttons and he talks, he also lights up around his head/visor which looks really cool in the dark. With regards to his joints and movement capabilities, he is pretty much the same as the standard Buzz Lightyear’s.
Intergalactic Buzz comes with a little “backpack” piece which acts as a disc launcher. You can clip it into his back, or some of the pictures on the box show it in his hand but you would need to physically hold it like that, it doesn’t clip on like it does on his back. The disc launcher still works, you just slot a disc into the top and squeeze the two red triggers in on either side and it actually shoots quite far!
Intergalactic Buzz does have pop out wings but sadly it doesn’t pop out all the way on one side of mine. I’ve tried to jiggle it around but no luck so far. Its not a huge issue for me though as I tend to display them with their wings packed in anyway.
All in all, I am thrilled with the latest edition to my Buzz Lightyear collection. He has his flaws but he is still wonderful to me. Here are some bonus pictures of our favourite space ranger ๐Ÿ™‚

Lego Disney Minifigure Series

Anyone who loves Disney and loves Lego will know that Lego recently released a new Disney character series of their popular blind bag minifigures. There are 18 figures in the series to collect, including some based on Pixar characters.

I have been lucky enough to complete my set recently after finding someone selling the ones I needed locally (and cheaper than retail!). I had bought a few in stores but only got one double (Mickey Mouse) as my friend Emma is a whizz at feeling the bags to make sure you get what you want ๐Ÿ˜‰

The characters available are Stitch, Pizza Planet Alien, Buzz Lightyear, Aladdin, Genie, Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, Cheshire Cat, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Mr. Incredible, Syndrome, Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Ursula and Ariel.

Aside from the Pixar ones (and of them, my favourite are definitely Buzz and the Alien), my favorites from the set are Stitch, Alice and Cheshire Cat. I really love the Maleficent but I am kind of disappointed that they didn’t do pairs for her and Stitch as all the other characters are in couples. However, perhaps they will do their corresponding pairs in a future release. Now I have the set, I really want to find 2 more Aliens so I have three ๐Ÿ˜‰
